GED Preparation Classes

Frank Phillips College offers free GED preparation classes during the fall and spring semesters. Upon enrollment, students are assessed in each subject area. Instruction is then individualized for each student.

Our GED classes and testing opportunities are offered at all 3 locations. This page is designed to give you an overview of your learning & testing opportunities with Frank Phillips College and information on our testing site in Borger, TX. GED Testing Information

The GED test is made up of four test subjects and each test is a different length:

  1. Reasoning through Language Arts (RLA) - 150 minutes
  2. Mathematical Reasoning - 115 minutes
  3. Science - 90 minutes
  4. Social Studies - 70 minutes

GED Testing Fees
Each test subject costs $36.25 for a total cost of $145 for the complete GED test. You may sign up for multiple subject tests on the same testing day, but be aware that lunch breaks are not automatically included.

GED Testing Eligibility
If 18 years or older:

  • Valid Texas ID, Texas driver's license, or government-issued ID
  • Not enrolled in high school
  • Not a high school graduate

If 17 years old:

  • Valid Texas ID, Texas driver's license, or government-issued ID
  • Withdrawal form from high school
  • Parental consent form

If 16 years old:

  • Valid Texas ID, Texas driver's license, or government-issued ID
  • Withdrawal form from high school
  • Parental consent form
  • Court order

Registering for the GED test

Sign up to test by visiting www.ged.com on any computer, tablet, or smartphone. You will need to create an account and complete your profile information before scheduling your test(s). Frank Phillips College offers GED testing approximately twice per month on Fridays during the school year and on Thursdays during the summer months. You will be able to access specific testing dates and times available at Frank Phillips College through your GED online account. All GED tests are given on computer.

GED Testing Location

On testing day, report to the Classroom Learning Complex (CLC), Room 18, on the Frank Phillips College campus.

ID Requirements on Testing Day
All testers must present photo identification each time they test. Acceptable forms of ID include a Texas driver's license, a Department of Public Safety (DPS) ID, a military ID, or a passport. If your ID does not show a Texas address, a secondary ID (such as a bill that shows a Texas address) is required.

Testing in Spanish
You may choose to test in Spanish. If you want to take the GED test in Spanish, be sure to indicate this when you register to test on www.ged.com.

GED Test Results

GED test results are available the same day you test by logging into your account on www.ged.com. Each subject area has a passing score of 145. To receive your GED certificate, you must score at least 145 in each of the four subjects.

Retesting for the GED Test
You may retest twice at a discounted rate if you do not pass a subject area the first time. After taking a test subject three times, you will have to wait 60 days before retesting. There is no limit to how many times you can test in a year.

GED Certificate/Transcript Search

The college is not able to look up your test scores, your GED transcript, or your GED certificate. To obtain information about your GED certificate, send an e-mail with your full name and birthdate to ged@tea.state.tx.us.
