SGA seeks officers for 2018-2019 school year

Student Government Association gives students the opportunity to lead.

Involvement in SGA helped me carve out time to be involved with Frank Phillips and make connections with students. At the Winter formal I met many students and got to know more about my classmates. The best part of being president is meeting so many new people.

SGA meetings include lunch and planning for events and are open to outside suggestion. Most recent discussions include plans to kick off elections for next year’s incoming student government. I encourage anyone considering running for office to do so. It has benefitted me much more than I expected by allowing me to learn more about campus, how it operates and the wonderful people here.

Running for office increases student involvement and awareness about SGA. Signup sheets can be found around campus for the next couple of weeks. Offices up for re-election include president, vice president and secretary.

SGA hosts a pin the tail on the donkey booth at the Fall Festival, as well as the Winter Formal. The 2017 winter formal consisted of a less formal style event in hopes to increase attendance. We held an ugly Christmas sweater contest, with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Prizes included gift cards, scantrons, and candy. The event was filled with laughter, music, and games.

Participation in SGA builds character and gets you involved with organizations on campus. I have enjoyed being a member of SGA the past year, I have gained insight into how events operate on campus and befriended more students than if I had not become a member. The greatest gift with being involved in SGA are the friends and connections you make while involved in the organization. Students who enjoy working with people, leading and coordinating events and meetings, and just having fun should look into running for office.

If you are wanting to be involved in SGA and learn more about running for office this semester to be a member of next year’s student government, sign up on one of the signup sheets around campus and attend our next meeting on April 10, at 12:35 p.m. in room CLC 21.
