Estrella Guardiola enters into her 1st year of coaching with experience working as a softball instructor at DBAT WACO and 2 years of travel ball coaching with American Freedom Organization.

From 2018-2020 she helped develop players in the travel ball organization that was based out of Waco, Texas. This organization consisted of local middle and high school kids within 30 miles of McLennan County.

She played her first two years at McLennan Community College where she had tremendous success as a catcher for the Highlassies. She was named a Second Team All-NJCAA Region 5 team, while also making the All-Academic Team for NJCAA Region 5 North. Guardiola then transferred to Northwestern Oklahoma State University, where she was a consistent player behind the plate, catching 29 games for the Ranger pitching staff. She recorded a solid .244 batting average with a total of 20 hits and 3 homers.

Lady Plainsmen 2020-2021 Softball

Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen Softball is under the direction of head coach Ronald Frost and assistant coach Estrella Guardiola.
 
Home games are held at Plainsmen Field in the City of Borger's Johnson Park area. 
 
The FPC Softball team is active in the community, promoting the sport of softball and Frank Phillips College. Extra-curricular activities include working with Habitat for Humanity, ringing bells for the Salvation Army, and volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House.

Frank Phillips College is pleased to announce the hiring of new Head Softball Coach Ronald Frost and the appointment of Estrella (Star) Guardiola as the new Assistant Coach at Frank Phillips College.

A former pitcher and outfielder at the NCAA Division 1 and NJCAA level, Frost possesses 9 combined years of college and coaching experience. With 6 years of coaching experience, Ron Frost enters his 3rd year with Vernon College as assistant coach. During his time at Vernon he has helped develop 19 student-athletes who moved on to NCAA & NAIA institutions.

In his 2nd season at VC he helped guide the Chaps to there 1st 30 win season in 10 years and their 1st regional/conference tournament in 4 years. That same season 2 hitters were named 1st TeamAll-Region and another 2nd Team All-Region. He coached a total of 4 All-Region hitters in his 2 full seasons.

Besides recruiting efforts, he was also a part of hitting development and theory as well as catching/outfield defense. He ran the team’s social media sites, assisted with scheduling, and handled camp scheduling and marketing while also being the bench coach on game days.

Prior to his time in Vernon, Frost was previously an student assistant coach in 2013, then volunteer assistant, 2014-2016, at Alabama State University, NCAA D1 school in Montgomery, AL. His time their he assisted in working with pitchers and outfielders on the baseball side. 

He had a successful two-year stint as a pitcher in the Hornets’ program and was a senior the first year of the Mervyl Melendez area at ASU. Frost transferred to ASU after playing two  seasons at Southern Union Community College in Wadley, AL. There he helped the Bison win 77 games in two years with a 7-2 record on the mound and a .311 care batting average. Frost is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and now resides in Vernon, Tx.

This season will be an exciting one with a new coaching staff, the unpredictability of the COVID requirements, and a solid mix of athletes recruited from the prior year and some returners who did not get to finish out their sophomore seasons. Frank Phillips College looks forward to watching the softball program grow under new leadership.

Frank Phillips College is pleased to announce the appointment of Marissa Koetting as the new head softball coach and the appointment of Kassie James as the new associate head coach at Frank Phillips College.

Marissa Koetting comes to us as a 4 year starter at NCAA Division I McNeese State University, Honor Graduate with a B.S. in Biology and a Minor in Psychology. She worked for two years as a coach and manager at Bullet Baseball and Softball Sports Academy in Lake Charles and was the Assistant Softball Coach at C.E. King High School in Houston, TX from 2015-2017. Marissa Koetting also has experience as a Graduate Assistant at Houston Baptist University in 2018 and earned a M.A. in Christian Apologetics. She also brings head coaching experience from Goose Creek Memorial High School as the Head High School softball coach for their program.

Koetting was honored at McNeese as a two-time All-SLC as well as being part of two Southland Conference Championship teams. At Bullet Baseball and Softball Sports Academy Koetting helped 14 athletes earn scholarships to the collegiate level while she led two travel ball teams to National Championships. During her time at HBU Koetting worked with outfielders and coached two players to the All-SLC Team. In her last position at Goose Creek Memorial High School Marissa Koetting doubled the regular season and district wins, coached 3 1st team all district players, and increased every athletic statistical category.

Kassie James comes to Frank Phillips College as a 2 year starter at NJCAA Division I Angelina College from 2013-2015 and a 2 year starter at NCAA Division I Houston Baptist University from 2016-2018 and was an Honor Graduate with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies. James also earned experience as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Dallas in 2019 and is currently pursuing a Master of Leadership Degree.

James has achievements at Angelina where she was a two-time NFCA All-American in 2014 and 2015. She also led her team to an NJCAA National Championship in 2014 and broke 6 school records during her time and was inducted into the Angelina College Hall of Fame in 2016. At HBU James was a two-time All-SLC Honorable Mention in 2017 and 2018 and was the offensive statistical team leader. During her Graduate Assistant position at University of Dallas she assisted in leading the team to its first post-season win in 3 years. James also lead their pitcher to become the university’s first player in the SCAC Conference All-Tournament team in 7 years.

“We are excited to have Coach Koetting as part of the FPC family and our community. I am looking forward to the direction in which she will be leading our women’s softball program. She has playing and coaching experience that will have an immediate impact on our program.” Said Dr. Jud Hicks, President of Frank Phillips College. “Coach Koetting has already been able to hire an new associate head coach. Coach James, in her own right, has playing and coaching experience that will help our student athletes in their development. We are all looking forward to the upcoming season with these two new coaches directing our program.”

Both coaches will meet with the new players later this summer and are actively recruiting for the 2019-2020 season. Koetting and James will also host a prospect camp July 9-10 for 2019 and 2020 graduates.
