Head Baseball Coach Jake Welch begins his first season as the Head of the Plainsmen baseball program. Welch has been in charge of the offensive, and outfield operations for the past two seasons. Welch helped lead last year’s Plainsmen team only one spot away from the regional playoff.

In the past 2 years under Coach Welch’s hitting instruction the Plainsmen have produced some of the best offense in school history. The last two teams have both posted over a 300 batting average with last year’s team scoring a school record of 412 runs in the season. Welch has coached the school’s top home run leader Brett Esau and Christian Mendez who received All-Region honors this past year at FPC.

As an assistant coach Welch has coached over 25 players who would go on to play at four year Universities such as: University of Houston, Angelo State University, West Texas A&M, Bethune-Cookman, amongst others.

Welch is a Miami, FL native who received his bachelors in accounting from Bethune-Cookman University where he helped the Wildcats win two conference championships and appear in two NCAA Division 1 regional tournaments.

Chad Brown

Title: Assistant Baseball Coach

Hometown: Albuquerue, NM

Chad graduated from West Texas in 2016 with his Bachelors degree in sports and exercise science. He played two years of college baseball here at Frank Phillips College where he then transferred to West Texas A&M University. At West Texas he made two Regional Tournament appearances as well as winning two Lonestar Conference Tournaments and winning a gold glove at third base his senior season.

Tyler Krull

Graduated from Bethune-Cookman University with a Bachelors degree in Health and Exercise Science. Currently in his first year as an assistant coach for the Plainsmen. Played 4 years for the B-CU Wildcats as a starting pitcher helping guide the team to 2 MEAC championships and 2 regional appearances throwing over 189 innings, 11 wins, and 31 games started over the 4 year span.

As Assistant Coach, he works primarily with the pitching staff and assists with recruiting.

Plainsmen Baseball

Head Coach Jake Welch is entering his first season with the Plainsmen. Coach Welch and his staff are looking forward to the 2019-20 season as they recruit talent from throughout the country.
Frank Phillips College is in one of the most competitive junior college regions in the country with six national championship titles coming from within the league during the past 13 years. Within the past 13 years, 14 Plainsmen were selected for the Major League Baseball First-Year Players’ Draft. Having a tradition of recruiting and developing good players, Frank Phillips College baseball looks forward to success in the upcoming season.
The Plainsmen baseball program consistently strives to upgrade facilities. The locker room is located right next to the indoor hitting and training facility. The team also has daily access to an Olympic-size pool and a 2,500 square-foot weight room in the state-of-the-art Borger Community Activity Center located on the north end of the Frank Phillips College campus.
Frank Phillips College is centrally located in the Texas Panhandle in Borger, Texas, and offers some of the best baseball weather in the country. The college offers a great student-to-teacher ratio and takes pride in preparing students to be successful in their trades and university studies.
