Rodeo Plainswoman take Southwest Region - added 10/6/2017

A short update on our rodeo athletes. Last nights championship round was a wet muddy mess in Portales, NM, but out Plainsmen persevered! Sophomore Bryce Batterton drew a hard running steer to place 6th in the Short round and 6th in the average of the Steer-Wrestling. Freshman Koryn Smedley scored sharp and roped a 3.0 for 3rd in the Short round and 4th in the average in Breakaway out of 151 contestant entries-she also placed 8th in the short round and 8th in the average for Goat-Tying. Freshman Mary Risse blazed through the mud for a 5th place short round and average finish for the event of Goat-Tying. Freshman Brazos Winters covered his short round horse in the Bareback Riding for an 7th place finish in the short round and 8th in the average. Many other athletes placed within the top 20 in their events, but just fell short of the top 10. The women's team overall placed 6th out of the 17 Southwest Region competing colleges. The Plainsmen will compete next In Vernon, TX September 28-30. Go Plainsmen!!
