FPC Women's Basketball Team Earns NJCAA Academic Award

The Franks Phillips College Women's Basketball team recently had four student-athletes who were awarded honors by the National Junior College Athletic Association for their academic achievement.

A pair of Lady Plainsmen Freshmen received the NJCAA Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence during the 2015-2016 academic year by attaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Amanda Costa of Tulsa, Okla. and Sarah Samarron of Earth were two of 42 NJCAA Division One Women's Basketball Players in the nation that received the Pinnacle Award. They were two of the three women's basketball players with a perfect 4.0 GPA from NJCAA Region 5 and the Western Junior College Athletic Conference.

Annette Crear of Houston and Kori Howard of Wheeler both received the NJCAA Exemplary Academic Achievement Award for having a cumulative GPA between 3.6-and-3.79. Crear finished with a 3.79, while Howard had a 3.69.

As a team the FPC Women's Basketball Team was named Honorable Mention as an NJCAA 2015-2016 Academic Team of the Year posting better than a 3.0 team GPA. The Lady Plainsmen were one of two NJCAA Region 5 and Western Junior College Athletic Conference Teams to be honored.
