FPC & the Rodeo News
Besides the excitement of the rodeo today was scheduled for “College Day”, where a few schools from all over the country set up booths to recruit contestants. Once such school is Frank Phillips College located in Borger, TX. The head coach of the school, Kaylee Moyer has already talked to nearly 100 kids today. “I’ve recently signed kids from Nevada, Canada and Australia,” Kaylee said. Her main focus is building a good team, specifically the girls. She looks for multi-event cowboys and cowgirls, being the 2012 CNFR Reserve All Around champion herself, and mainly searches for rough stock riders and goat-tyers. One such goat-tyer, Ricky Rodriguez out of Chino Valley, AZ, plans to attend the college in the fall. The college really stuck out for her above of all others “because it’s a small Jr. College in a small Texas town with a great new coach, Kaylee Moyer, who wants to build the program there.” Coach Moyer is “super stoked” to have Ricky joining the Frank Phillips rodeo family. Ricky has recently competed in the first round this morning, posting a time of 8.3 and is currently sitting tenth. Her next run is planned for Friday night’s performance, where she plans on making “another smooth run but add a little more speed”. She knows she must be a seven to make it back to the short round on Saturday night, and she plans on joining the many determined kids at the practice arenas each day to prepare. ~Sierra Spratt Rodeo News August 2015
