David Diaz

Hometown: Ft. Worth, TX
Head Coach David Diaz is planning an extraordinary season for the FPC Plainsmen baseball team.

David is a graduate of Louisiana State University in Shreveport and is originally from Ft. Worth. He came on-campus in August 2016 as Assistant Baseball Coach and is now looking forward to a new challenge as Head Coach.

He came to the program directly from Triple-A Minor Leagues competition in Mexico as a middle reliever with the Vaqueros Laguna of the LMB. Prior to that, he was a starting pitcher for the Rockford Aviators in the Frontier League.

He is finishing his second year coaching at the collegiate level, having served as the Volunteer Assistant for the University of Dallas prior to his year in Mexico.

During his time at LSU, he helped lead the Pilots to two Regional Championship games in back-to-back years. Within his two years there, he was a two-time first-team all-conference selection. Upon graduation, David was selected to play in the prestigious Alaskan Baseball League where he was a representative of the ABL All-Star Game.

Jake Welch
College: Bethune Cookman University
Hometown: Miami, Florida
Asst. Coach Welch returns once again to the FPC Plainsmen coaching staff. He is from Miami, Florida, and attended Bethune Cookman University where he earned his Bachelors in accounting. He was a 4-year starter there playing centerfield.

As Asst. Coach, he works with outfielders and hitters and he assists in recruiting.

Spencer Lightfoot
College: Louisiana State University
Hometown: Baton Rouge
This is Coach Lightfoots first season with the Plainsmen. He will be assisting Coach Diaz as the pitching coach.

From Baton Rouge, Louisiana he spent a year at Louisiana College (D3) in Pineville, Louisiana as a relief pitcher. Spent a year at Southern University (D1) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana before finishing his career at Louisiana State University (D1) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

He graduated from Louisiana Sate University with a major in Sport Administration as well as a minor in Leadership, and another minor in Coaching.

He would then go to Southeastern University (NAIA) in Lakeland Florida to receive his Masters of Business Administration. While in Lakeland he coached the JV team and assisted the Varsity with pitchers and catchers. While there helped lead the Fire to their 2nd Conference Championship in school history. Also helping bring the team to its highest national ranking of 3rd in school history, after the team started their season 33-0, to be the only undefeated team in the country at the time. He had one catcher that was drafted by the Padres in 2016 and had 3 pitchers that would go on to play independent ball.
